What Makes a Good Ad?

One of the main things that I think makes a good as is the ability to get the general ad message without reading the copy (if any). If the copy was in a different language, the audience should still be able to understand what the company is communicating. This of course takes into consideration that you know anything or fall within the target audience. QUICKLY glance at the ads below. DON'T READ WHAT IT SAYS ON THE AD. What do you think they're trying to say?

Ad Agency: BBDO, Taipei, Taiwan
Client: Melchers Travel Agency

Ad Agency: Publicis Conseil, Paris, France
Client: Ligue Internationale Contre le Racisme et l’Antisémitisme (LICRA)

Did you cheat?

The first ad with the asian woman and her child reads "Time for a family vacation?"
Ha. Makes complete sense right?

The second ad reads "Your Skin Color Shouldn't Dictate Your Future"
Controversial and thought-provoking?
